Unintentionally, and rather imprudently, I’ve made A Fresh New Look more of an emotional expression than a technical article. So here I’m writing again about the technical changes in the site.
Apart from the changes in font, font colour, background picture in the new theme, there are a few more developments that have taken place. The overall 4-column outline with three sidebars has been retained (I have a lot of sidebar content, so I need three of them), but several items have been removed. The animated horizontal rule just above and below the post area is no more there as it does not seem to fit in with the background picture and the overall colour scheme. The same has happened to the randomly animated book and globe in the left sidebar — they are now gone.
Though I did not feel much for the horizontal rule and the book and the globe, I was loathe to part with my top menu that I made in CSS. It was indeed an integral part of the site, and allowed me to show certain things to everyone without giving them the least trouble. One could simply hover the mouse over the menu and get a brief “About Me”. This was much better than an “about me” link, which the viewer would have to click on and then wait for the page to load. In addition to this technical reason, I had toiled so much behind this menu, generating each link in it with precision and care, and then, as is my habit, customising and refurbishing the entire thing with my own colours and fonts — I was aghast to find that I could not figure out any way to show the menu on top of the template’s background pictures. So, my dear top menu is gone, but only until I find a way to show it properly — God willing, it will be back soon.
Among the other things you will not see for a while are the OmniSlide menus beside the left sidebar, the list of related posts beneath each post and my list of Facebook friends. They will return as soon as I take the time to copy their code into the new template’s HTML.
I have added some fancy new animations in the my name section, thanks to the new templates at reddodo.com. I am always looking for more of them, and more will be added as soon as I make them.
The most significant addition, however, in my opinion, is the red-and-green flag on the translator bar. Although Google still does not offer automatic translations of webpages to Bangla, you can view my Bangla blog by clicking on this flag. I call it the most significant addition because it now gives me the liberty of sharing with you my feelings in my own language and yours.
As I was renovating my site, I was turning the pages that contain its initial sketch and plan, and I was somewhat surprised to find that several components in my primary plan have still not made it online! That is a great failure for a designer, to be not able to bring into being things that were designed to be integral parts of the site six months ago. Therefore, I am soon getting to work with these items, one of them being a box with inspirational quotes about the Quran itself, and the other about Jesus, peace be upon him. There is also a list of links to some of my favourite sites that I would like to share with you, several search boxes to search different topics (e.g. search in the Quran/Hadith, search IRF, etc.)
There are too many things to do, and too less time, energy and scope. With time, I hope to turn my site into a dynamic, professional-looking and entertaining place where my viewers would derive maximum benefit.
